On-line Contract Enquiries

Your Durell system can revalue investments and pensions on-line. To begin the set-up process, starting from Durell’s Main Menu…

There are two aspects to this setting-up process. One is to agree the manner in which everyone in your company should use Contract Enquiry, while the other is to enter the passwords or certificate details for each individual provider. We’ll start with overall settings that will apply to everyone…

Standard CE Settings for all Providers

Click the “Standard CE settings for all providers” button at the bottom right of the above screen, which will activate the following…

Provided you don’t clear the tick at the bottom-left of the above screen then everyone will still be able to override the settings (i.e. they will just be your default or standard settings). However if you do clear this tick then no-one will be able to vary the set procedure.

The RETAIN option is recommended if you wish to keep details of investment events, such as withdrawals for income and switches. The downside of this choice is that you’ll also have to match the insurer’s (sometimes non-standard) fund names with standard MEX and SEDOL ones. On the plus side it’ll allow you to use the Standard valuation report, which includes a full history of all investment transactions. You must use this option if you plan to link to other third-party investment tools like “Analytics” that require the use of standard codes.

The DELETE option is recommended if you want to minimise your workload. In this case the system will simply delete all existing fund details and replace them with the current fund totals, using the provider’s fund names. The downside of this choice is you won’t be able to keep details of switches and income withdrawals, but provided you use the Basic valuation report this won’t matter. The benefit is that it is much quicker and simpler to use.

Tick the “Always value each client’s entire portfolio…” in order to value complete portfolios instead of just one contract at a time.

Next choose the option to take if a contract fails to revalue on-line (typically there’s a 70% failure rate for a variety of reasons). They are…

  1. To leave the contract unchanged
  2. To leave the units unchanged but update the prices using your company’s data feed from Financial Express
  3. Ditto, but use a centralised data feed from Financial Express, sponsored by Durell

Note that the third option will give you the same prices as the second, but should cost your company about half as much. On the other hand you only get prices for the funds you are actually revaluing, while the second option gives your company a price history for over 2,500 funds and indices. If you don’t wish to subscribe to either of these you must select the first option.

Finally choose a “number of days” for how old Financial Express fund prices can be before the system forces you to correct them manually.

When done click the “Apply settings to ALL contracts” button, followed by the “Close” button.

If you don’t require valuations from Canada Life you may skip this section.

Importing the Durell certificate is similar to that described above, except afterwards you must import a further three certificates that have to go in specific locations. You’ll find a copy of the Durell Company Certificate in your \Imw-Data\Certificates\Personal folder. Import it using the password Happ1ne55 [n.b. note that this password starts with a capital H and contains three digits).
